Buthan - The New Housing Development

Buthan Aerial photograph
On Wednesday 6th June 2012, the new suburb of Buthan was officially opened by the Northern Territory Housing Minister, Chris Burns.  A total of 90 houses were built with an approximate cost of $100 million (£65 million) of which 65 houses were new builds and the remaining 25 were built to replace existing structures or as infill of empty lots within the existing community.  An estimated 34% of total labour for the project was drawn from the local community.  This project addressed the urgent need for an increase in available housing for the  over-crowded previous accommodation.
